Career Training-Any College will Do

I was surprised by an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday. They were showing that many of the nations top CEO’s path usually starts at State University-I always thought the more prestigious the university, the better!

It was interesting to read some of their thoughts: “I don’t care where someone went to school, and that never caused me to hire anyone or buy a business.” Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, who graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

What counts most,CEO’s say, is a person’s capacity to seize oppotrunities. As students, they recall immersing themselves in their interest, becoming campus leaders and forging strong relationships with teachers.

My favorite quote came from A.G. Lagley, CEO of Procter & Gamble: “I learned to think, to communicate, to lead, to get things done,” he says, adding that those qualities are what he seeks in job candidates at this company. “Any college will do.”

And to think that whenever I wasn’t happy with my place in life-I always blamed it on not going to Harvard 😉
