Personal Finance Tip: Occupy a Lot of Real Estate

What makes a great blog have a chance of actually making money? I would go for eyeballs, which generally comes from great content and occupying great deals of internet real estate.

The subject came up when I was advising a fellow speaker about having a blog and using Blogger vs WordPress or TypePad. I showed him something that blew him away-here is what convinced him to use something other than blogger! Lets use my blog as a simple example. Go to Google search and type in

site: this is what you see: Results 1 – 2 of 2 from I occupy a grand total of 2 pages in the internet real estate world-this is after blogging since March of 2005-Dude, You Suck!

Let’s do the same for Blueprint for Financial Prosperity: the results are: Results 1 – 10 of about 449 from 449 pages, much better!

How about Consumerism Commentary? You get this: Results 1 – 6 of about 3,900 from -much better!

And finally, Instapundit. You get: Results 1 – 10 of about 27,100 from That’s 27,000 pages of real estate. Sweet!

So, if your goal is to occupy some real estate, build a serious web presence and hopefully make some dough you see that you may want to kiss Blogger Good-By because other formats like WordPress and Type Pad allow your blog to generate more pages!

Food for thought!
